Three graduates of the BS in Civil Engineering program at the ASU Kalibo campus passed the Civil Engineering Licensure Examination (CELE) given by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) last May 7-8, 2017. ASU Kalibo passing percentage was 50% while the national passing percentage was 35.92%.
The new Civil Engineers from ASU Kalibo are Engr. Juncel T. Fuentes, Engr. Chem F. Laureano, and Engr. Romeo Q. Villegas, Jr.
A graduate of the Roxas Memorial College of Arts and Trades (now Aklan State University - College of Industrial Technology) with the degree, Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (BSIT), major in Food Technology was named again the 2015 American Culinary Federation (ACF) Southeast Region Pastry Chef of the Year on January 10, 2015 in St. Augustine, Florida, USA after the competition at the ACF Southeast Region Culinary Salon in Le Cordon Blue College of Culinary Arts, Atlanta, Tucker, Georgia.
Rodrigo Domingono Nunez, Jr. who graduated his baccalaureate degree from RMCAT currently works as executive pastry chef at Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Orlando, Orlando, Florida, USA. He finished his associate degree in culinary arts from The Arts Institute of Colorado, Denver. Prior to his latest employment, he has worked in different hotels and resorts in the Philippines and the U.S. as the Manila Diamond Hotel, MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, and Flamingo Las Vegas, Las Vegas. In 2011, he received a silver medal at ACF's USA Culinary Cup Challenge, and his first ACF Southeast Region Pastry Chef of the Year in 2013.
The ACF Pastry Chef of the Year Award was established in 2004 and sponsored by Plugra European-Style Butter. It is given to a pastry chef "who has displayed a passion for the craft, has an accomplished reputation in the pastry field and has given back through the education of others by sharing his or her skills and knowledge."
The American Culinary Federation, Inc. (ACF), established in 1929, is the standard of excellence for chefs in North America, with nearly 20,000 members from 200 chapters in the US. It operates the most comprehensive certification program for chefs in the United States. It is also the home to ACF Culinary Team USA, the official representative for the United States for major international culinary competitions.#
Civil engineering graduates of ASU Kalibo who took for the first time the Civil Engineering Licensure Examination given by the Professional Regulation Commission sustained their efficiency when they placed the Aklan State University - Kalibo Campus in the top 5 for Civil Engineering schools with less than 50 examinees.
The article by finduniversity.ph (Philippine Universities and Colleges Guide) displayed the schools' passing rates of first time takers only and was based on the results of 4 board examinations: May 2016, November 2015, May 2015 and December 2014.
The top 5 Civil Engineering schools for 2016 with less than 50 examinees are: 1-2. Visayas State University, Baybay City, Leyte and Surigao del Sur State University-Main Campus, Tandag City (90%); 3. Negros Oriental State University, Dumaguete City (78%); 4. Aklan State University-Kalibo Campus, Kalibo (76%); 5. Cavite State University-Indang Campus, Indang (74%).#
Boracay Island Water Company or Boracay Water, a Manila Water Philippine Ventures Company (MWPC) has selected the Aklan State University as one of the 5 higher education institutions (HEIs) in Panay Island to be its educational institution partner in promoting students' enrichment of learning and in providing opportunities for career placement, particularly to engineering students and graduates. The other institutions in Western Visayas that were selected as educational partners included the Aklan Polytechnic College, University of San Agustin, University of the Philippines - Visayas, and Central Philippine University.
Boracay Water had been serving the water necessities of Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan and has opened its doors to the academe in accepting student interns and apprentice. Andal, Human Resource Head of the MWPC, training students and hiring graduates of local schools are not only helping employment but also believing that these graduates have skills comparable and competitive with those who finished their degrees from urban areas. They have expanded their services not only in the whole country but in some key regions in Asia.
As a chosen partner of Boracay Water and MWPC, ASU was presented a certificate of appreciation during the MOA Signing Ceremony held at the Luxent Hotel, Quezon City on October 27, 2016. The activity's theme focused on "Enhancing capabilities and gearing up for collaborative growth."#
Four graduates from the ASU College of Industrial Technology posted a 100% passing rate for first takers in the September 2016 Electrical Engineer Licensure Examinations for Registered Master Electricians given by the Professional Regulation Commission. Overall, ASU-CIT examinees registered an overall performance of 66.67%.#
